Year-on-year quarterly Total TV Viewing rises for the first time in over 3 years

Year-on-year quarterly BARB measured Total TV viewing (i.e. how many people, on average, are watching TV at any given point in time) in the UK has risen for the first time in over 3 years from 8.25 million Individuals 4+ in 2015-Q2 to 8.30 million in 2016-Q2 (+0.6%). While the mediocre weather, Euro 2016 and recent political events are likely to have played a part in boosting TV viewing levels, this is still a noteworthy increase, as BARB has not yet begun incorporating the second/small screen viewing it has started measuring as part of Project Dovetail in the official consolidated TV audience data. This suggests that, in line with our forecasts, underlying television viewing levels finally appear to be levelling off after having declined steadily over the last 3 years.
