Ofcom commissions FEH Media Insight to assess viewing impact of EPG prominence

10/04/13

FEH Media Insight has been commissioned by Ofcom to assess the viewing impact of page one EPG (electronic programme guide) prominence. This work has been commissioned by Ofcom as part of the process for determining the financial terms for the renewal of the Channel 3 (ITV) and Channel 5 PSB (public service broadcast) licences, which are due to expire on 31 December 2014 and may be renewed for a further period of 10 years.

One of the benefits of holding these PSB licences is the right to an appropriate degree of prominence on EPGs (page one prominence in the case of ITV and Channel 5), and FEH Media Insight’s task is to assess the viewing impact on ITV and Channel 5 if they were to lose this right and suffer a significant loss of EPG prominence on all the major broadcast platforms.

The analysis will be conducted by Dr Farid El-Husseini, who is a leading expert on the viewing impact of EPG prominence and has led major projects in this area for: UKTV, Discovery, Virgin Media, QVC, NBCU, ITV and Ofcom.
